Description

Application for CA CSEFEL
Teaching Pyramid Training Institute
for New Trainers

Support implementation of the CA CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid in your community through training!

This is an opportunity for you to participate in a two-phase apprenticeship on the CA CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid Framework and practices, learn from the California Collaborative on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CA CSEFEL) staff, and become a resource to your program and community.

Apprentice trainers will be selected based on their application, experience, and regional distribution. To be considered, applicants must:

  • Commit to attending the full three days of the training institute in Fairfield, CA June 21-23, 2017* that covers Phase 1 of the apprentice training authorization process and Practice-Based Training. There will also be some pre-Institute activities to complete via WebEx.

  • Be willing to participate at a future date in Phase 2 (Priority will be given to those willing to participate in Phase 2)

    • Phase 2 requires providing CA CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid training in your community with co-training from WestEd. This training could be for preschool or for infant/toddler. If the training is new to your community, there would be additional costs for having WestEd facilitate a leadership team and co-train the sessions. If there are other authorized trainers in your community, this may be negotiated differently.

    • Training for the Teaching Pyramid consists of 5 full days of module training over 6-8 months; 6 Leadership Team meetings; and 6 Training for Trainers and Coaches (T4TC) sessions, all co-training or co-facilitating with WestEd staff or authorized trainers. Outside reading and practice also will need to be done before each training.

    • Phase 2 includes observation of your training by WestEd either in person or via videotape.

    • The fee for Phase 2 is $3500 per person and will enable you to apply for authorization as a CA CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid trainer. This does NOT include costs if co-training and leadership team facilitation is needed.

  • Have resources/job to support this role, as additional funding for training is not necessarily available (although there may be opportunities for authorized trainers to be paid).

  • Participate in ongoing training and technical support from CA CSEFEL staff, including observation, training, and web support.

  • Collect data as required by the CA CSEFEL project on the effectiveness of this approach.

  • Train only on the CA CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid when acting as a CA CSEFEL trainer.

Space for Phase 1 is limited. Applicants will be notified of next steps based on their application. A fellowship is available for the Institute that covers lodging, many meals, and materials. Once accepted, a registration fee of $125 is required.
